Promoting Resident Well-Being in North Carolina Nursing Home Resident Councils

The Resident Council Toolkit was developed by Friends of Residents in Long-Term Care in collaboration with the NC Long-Term Care Ombudsmen Association, NC Activity Professionals Association, and North Carolina State University. Initially piloted in five NC nursing homes, the videos and manual were distributed to all NC nursing homes to assist in the development of new Resident Councils and strengthening of existing ones.

North Carolina Emergency Preparedness Training for Long-Term Care Facilities (LTC2Prepare)
University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work

The University of Louisville developed and implemented the LTC2Prepare to provide emergency preparedness education and training to more than 1,800 direct care staff in nursing homes statewide, as well as Ombudsmen, State Surveyors, and other key stakeholders. The training, provided over a 3 year project period, gave participants the opportunity to not only learn about various types of man-made and natural disasters but to also develop their facility's disaster plan per the EP Final Rule requirements.

PRIDE in Care North Carolina
Centralina Council of Governments

The PRIDE in Care Training, developed and implemented by Centralina COG, provided 17 train the trainer education sessions to 167 SNF staff, Ombudsmen, and state surveyors over a three-and-a-half-year period. The purpose of this project was to create more inclusive skilled nursing facilities across the state of North Carolina and to empower individuals to serve as advocates and educators in their Skilled Nursing Facilities to uphold residents’ rights and treat all residents with dignity and respect.
